The IEEE International Symposium on Performance Analysis of Systems and Software (ISPASS) has been held annually since 2000. It is the leading forum for research on the measurement, characterization, modelling and simulation of computer systems and software — work concerned with how systems actually behave, rather than only with how they are designed.

Scope

ISPASS covers performance and efficiency analysis across the stack:

  • Methodology — analytical modelling, statistical methods, simulation techniques, tracing and profiling tools, hardware performance counters, and power, thermal, variability and reliability models.
  • Hardware — multicore and many-core processors, accelerators and GPUs, memory and storage systems, embedded and mobile systems, datacenters, HPC, networks, quantum computing and emerging technologies.
  • Workloads and software — managed languages, virtualization, datacenter and internet-sector workloads, multimedia and games, and machine learning training and inference.
  • Foundations — metrics, bottleneck identification, and visualization.

ISPASS explicitly welcomes confirmations or refutations of important prior results, and tool and benchmark papers judged on their potential to enable future research.

What ISPASS publishes

Proceedings appear in the IEEE Xplore digital library. ISPASS runs an optional artifact evaluation process and awards IEEE reproducibility badges — Available, Reviewed and Reproducible — to papers whose artifacts are evaluated successfully.

Alongside full papers, ISPASS accepts extended poster abstracts for ongoing and late-breaking work.

How ISPASS is organized

Each edition has its own Organizing Committee, led by a General Chair and a Program Chair, who are appointed by the ISPASS Steering Committee. Each edition runs its own review process, registration and website. This site hosts the current edition and links to the archives of previous ones.

ISPASS is sponsored by the IEEE Computer Society, and has been supported by its Technical Committee on Computer Architecture (TCCA) and its Technical Committee on Microarchitecture (TCuARCH).

Getting involved

  • Submit — each year’s Call for Papers opens in the autumn for a conference the following spring.
  • Review — contact the Program Chair of the current edition to volunteer for the programme committee.
  • Sponsor — contact the current edition’s Sponsorship Chair.
  • Host — the Steering Committee selects the host institution for each edition several years in advance.
